MDNR Boy Scout Conservation Stewardship Awards

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has shared a long history of conservation stewardship with scouting organizations. Scouts have participated and completed a number of service projects or eagle projects on lands managed by the department. In honor of this commitment to conservation stewardship, and in recognition of the service provided, the DNR - in partnership with the Michigan Boy Scout Councils - has initiated a Conservation Stewardship Award that scouts can earn.

Depending on the scouting level and program, Boy Scouts can earn earning awards while helping conserve Michigan's natural resources by participating in stewardship activities on state lands. The scouting levels and requirements to earn a stewardship patch are listed below.

Good luck and thank you for your continued efforts.

The Little Brave Program

The Great Lakes Council is offering this recognition program designed for Tiger Cubs through Second Class Scout, and others of similar age.  It is designed as a program enhancement for unit leaders to use when planning their individual unit's activities.  This Program Manual is your guide to where and how to conduct events and how to order recognition items.

In addition the CPT committee "lookout" training sessions to further explain the use of the program.  Each unit is encouraged to provide at least one adult from the unit to attend these training sessions. These may be registered adult leaders or interested parents.

Additional segment patches are earned which surround the main patch.  Each segment represents a minimum of 2 hours of outdoor activity in a public park.

Cub Scout Academics & Sports Program

The Scout Academics & Sports Program provides extra recognition opportunities  that encourage the scouts to try new things and put forth a best effort.  Cub Scouts of all ages can participate and earn belt loops and pins for each activity.  Activities can be done individually, in a den, or as a pack.
Optional worksheets and extra materials are available that can help scouts organize notes, listen actively, and document their work.
