Welcome to Troop 1 - About Us
When the San Fernando Valley's first Boy Scouts troop was formed 107 years ago (1913), Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated as a 29th President of the United States.
The First United Methodist Church of Van Nuys formed Troop 1 in response to the 1912 West Coast promotional visit of an official of the New York Council. Scouting soon swept California, with councils opening in most major cities between 1915 and 1920.
Troop 1, whose origins predate the formation of the Los Angeles Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America by two years, began as National Troop 122, but was remained when the San Fernando Valley Council was formed in 1923. In 2013, Boy Scout Troop 1 celebrated 100 years of continuous scouting since 1913 at the Valley Hanaro Church.
In 2020, Troop 1 has been chartered with Mannam Presbyterian church, which is now the new home for the Troop.
Boy Scout Troop 1 is the oldest continuously active Scout Troop in the Western States.
